BILL'S BLOG

The Leadership and Succession Meeting on 2nd December was very necessary for the future of our club and I am glad to say that it proved successful with a firm succession path installed. My thanks go to all those who attended and for those who volunteered for various positions in the club.
John's Nightcliff 10 pin bowling proved popular with
those who attended and Janet showed hidden talents and was a worthy winner. Don't forget round 2 in February same venue commencing at 10.00hrs.
The Christmas lunch was well attended and everyone enjoyed the food and the company and Eean ably assisted by Max led the choral part of the proceedings. If you have any suggestions for next year's outings commencing March please contact Eean, Janet or myself.
Our thoughts and best wishes for a speedy
recovery go to Joy, who was unfortunate enough to have had a fall and was taken to hospital thereby missing the Christmas lunch.
If any of you need any help or assistance due to poor health please contact myself or Joan and if we are able to help we will gladly do so.
Shirley and I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting on 1st February at Casuarina Club and we trust that 2012 will be a healthy and happy year for all members and their families.
Cheers, Bill

A GREAT WAY TO DESCRIBE PROBUS
As a Rotarian and now a Probarian I am often asked “What is Probus”.
When starting to explain that it is “an Association of active retirees who join together in clubs to provide regular opportunities to keep their minds active, expand their interests and enjoy the fellowship of new friends” you can see their eyes start to glaze over and turn off. Very little opportunity to speak about the Rotary
connection.
Probus in our part of the world is very much part of the family of Rotary and when asked by someone “What IS Probus?”, I believe that is important for all Rotarians and Probarians to have a ready response, a “one liner” much as a knee jerk reaction. So try this for size:
“Probus is a Rotary sponsored association of clubs promoting healthy ageing in our communities”.
Hopefully this will spark some interest, and we can then add something along the lines of “Probus clubs are sponsored by Rotary clubs as part of their commitment to Community Service. These clubs are open to membership of active retirees or people no longer working full time, to provide opportunities to keep their minds active, expand their interests, build new relationships and enjoy the fellowship of new friends.”
If speaking with someone as a potential member it may be worthwhile describing some of the activities and interest groups that your Probus Club has, such as Dining Out, Tour Group, Golf, Ten Pin Bowling, etc. Without the support of Rotary clubs, there would be no new Probus clubs formed and we need to keep this connection with the family of Rotary alive and well.
